Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Heartland Speech & OT?

We are a private pediatric speech/language and occupational therapy clinic. We are family owned and are dedicated to providing area childrens with high quality speech/language and occupational therapy services. We also really like to have fun!

Are you affiliated with the public schools?

No, we are not affiliated with the public school system. Some families choose to take advantage of the services we offer in addition to their child’s existing school-based services. Other families choose our services alone. We are proud to offer specialized one-on-one therapy services tailored to each child’s individual needs.

Does my child have to “qualify” for your services?
Our Speech/Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists will evaluate your child and work with you to determine if therapy services would benefit your child. Although formal testing may be a part of the evaluation, testing and specific scores are not required to obtain services.
What ages do you see?
We see children from birth to teens.
Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans and are in-network for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Midlands Choice, United Healthcare, Medica, Aetna, and United Healthcare Community Plan. We will submit all insurance claims for you.

How does scheduling work at Heartland?

We schedule recurring appointments at the frequency that fits your child’s needs. We try our best to find a day and time that works for your family, and then that spot is reserved for your child. For more detailed information about appointments, please see our “Heartland Policies” form for more info.

How is payment handled?

We send monthly statements out after we hear from your insurance company and the balance is due by the 15th of the following month. We accept check, credit card, and cash and also accept most health savings and flexible spending account cards. Please talk to Laura regarding payment options.

How long are the therapy sessions?
Sessions are typically 30-45 minutes in length.
Is there a waiting list?

After school times are most in demand and can require a wait. Please contact Laura regarding availability.

Do you provide in-home therapy?

All of our sessions are held at our clinic.

When are you open?

We are open Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Can I sit in during my child’s therapy session?

Absolutely! We want each session to be as productive as possible, and sometimes that involves parents sitting in during the session and sometimes that means parents might need to sit out. You and your child’s therapist can discuss which option is best for your child.

How long will my child need therapy?

The length of therapy depends on the nature of your child’s needs and the rate of progress made in therapy sessions. We consistently see that follow-through at home has a positive impact on progress and can reduce the amount of time spent in therapy. We love to support parents in taking an active role in their child’s progress.
